Killerton House

Explore glorious landscape gardens surrounded by parkland and step inside a 18th-century house with a renowned historical fashion collection. Would you give away your family home for your political beliefs? Sir Richard Acland did just this with his Devon countryside estate. At 2,590 hectares (6,400 acres) it is one of the largest country estates the National Trust has acquired (it includes 20 farms and 200-plus cottages). This year’s fashion exhibition ‘The F-word: The changing language of fashion’ explores how revolutionary innovations in fabric, cut and fastenings have changed the shape of fashion for ever. Enjoy a family day out and see the beautiful garden blooming with colour all year round, including rhododendrons, magnolias and rare trees surrounded by rolling Devon countryside.

A family home and a great estate. Glorious landscape garden surrounded by parkland with fine 18th-century house

Killerton’s 6,400 acre estate has a interesting food story with 18 farms and a watermill that supply the restaurant and both cafés. Dishes we serve are lovingly made with award-winning Killerton produce and quality ingredients from estate farmers’ and local suppliers. The Stables café is perfect for a refreshing drink and a slice of homemade cake. You can sit back and enjoy a bistro-style dish from the menu in the award-winning restaurant, or the Dairy café in the garden serves snacks and warming drinks.

On the third Saturday of the month, Killerton holds a farmers’ market in the main visitor car park. Pop by to pick up tasty treats and estate grown plants while supporting local producers. Pop by the main visitor car park and enjoy the wide range of stalls. Taste, try and buy direct from the producers every third Saturday of the month between 10.30am and 2.30pm.  Stalls include delicious breads, preserves, sweet treats and tempting cheeses. Local fruit and vegetables are also available.  This year, the gardeners will be selling estate grown plants. It’s a great chance to quiz them on anything garden related. Killerton stands at the heart of a community and is committed to supporting the local economy, getting visitors to enjoy and actively eat fresh local and seasonal food. The catering team work closely with neighbouring farms including Broadclyst Community Farm and Burrow farm, and uses Clyston Mill flour in their homemade bread and scones.
